Hello, new 'poster' here. Does anyone know of a suitable deisel isuzu engine to put into my 1996 Rodeo? Or if anyone has ever attemped such a thing, that information would be helpful too. Thanks for any information.

I would check out this board. It looks like most of the guys on there are from other countries where they get all the cool diesels. There might be more experience to glean knowledge from. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
On a side note I am looking into doing the same swap but with a '98 or '99 Rodeo. From what I have found the 3.0 and the 3.1 are the more powerful options. Good luck with the search and post up what you decide.

Here in South Africa we have the 2.8 Turbo Diesel - 4JB1 engine, that was installed in our Frontier's (Rodeo in the USA). I therefore don't think that you will have a problem doing the conversion. The mounts should be the same if I go by other postings that I have read.

Sometimes I wish my 2.2TDs had a bit more power. I think I asked Acy76 this already but I forget the answer:Is the 2.8 four or 6 cylinder? Brian Rodgers

Would be nice if a GM 6.2l or 6.5l would fit in a Rodeo or Trooper but I have already asked that question and was told the GM v8 6.2l/6.5l deisel would not fit plus they were to heavy.
I do know that the NPR Isuzu truck engines are bulit proff because I ran a wrecker with the deisel in it and it had over 600000 on it when it was sold and the only thing that was done to it was clutches and it ever had the valve cover removed off it.
This truck was abused from day one and was treated like a 5 ton truck because it would pull more than it was designed for.
I liked the truck because it would turn around in a two lane road and never touch the shoulder.

The 3.9 would be interesting, although its size and weight might be too much for a small truck like the Trooper/Rodeo. You would also have to find a way to connect a transmission, as I believe it has some sort of weird SAE bellhousing. Maybe these guys can help?
