i am getting some fuel armor together this weekend and i was curioous whether this article also applies to my vehicle

http://www.4x4wire.com/mitsubishi/projects/fuel_tank_armour/

it looks to be the same size but the mounting hole pattern is for sure different. is the tank on the 87 mits the same as the tank on my 89 raider?..the same size and dimensions??

No. The leaf-sprung Gen I vehicles (i.e., the 87 2.6) have a smaller tank than the coil-sprung rigs (your 89 3.0).

first thing i had to do was measure that puppy and figure out what i will need. since i decide to do it at 1:00 am; i had to triple check my figures. good thing i did!

here are the cut pieces. i altered the original fuel armor spec sheets and saved it to my computer for the rest of you guys.

here are the pieces laid on top of the crappy stock fuel tank cover.

Looking good...
On my fuel tank skid I used a piece of 2"x2" angle iron to go around the edges and further strengthen it even more. I would recommend something similar for yours cause that will make the whole flat pieces seem as if they are 2" thick. It will be even more stout...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm wanting to create some armor for my Liberty, and am just curious how in the world one determines the cuts needed. Any tips from anyone are very appreciated.

Anything that I have made has had a couple cardboard templates first and then you can make the lines where you need to cut it in sections and contour it around.....

Its much easier to cut cardboard than metal....lol
