Nathan..I am seriously considering this swap. For simplicity I think I'd go with a single case. Seems like it could actually be cost effective in comparison to the 3.1's...and with the NP231 you could go to 4 to 1 with terra lows at a later time if you wanted and like you were saying the stock 2.7 is very much an improvement over mitsu stock 1.9.

Just want be sure I got it right..to mate a 231 to my 95 SR I'll need:

1.)A 23 spline short output shaft 231 out of a cherokee with an AW4

2.) the tailhousing off the Jeep AW4 Tranny

3.) fabricate: Bracket for stock frame mounts, Shifter, Drive shafts and speedo connections.

Am I overlooking anything major? seems like a single case would be pretty strait forward. 2.7 sure would be nice as well as the ability to upgrade with a SYE and 4 to 1.
