Guys I have come across an endless supply of AMSOIL 15W-40 fleet oil and I'm curious weather or not to use it in my 91 YJ. The specs say its good for diesel and gas engines; anyone have any experiance with it? My engine in my old YJ has a fresh rebuild with only about 8K miles on it.

Howdy John 15-40 should be ok to use. The oil will be at 15 on cold winter mornings and at 40 in a running engine. I use the same oil in my deisels and if I come up short I use it in anything that needs some added.
Around here straight 40 weight would be ok all year. Specially in a worn older engine where the clearences are opened from wear.

I know a couple guys that specifically use 15w40 and nothing else in their GAS engines...diesel oil has more detergents as well, so it'll keep you running clean!!!

you can use that in any motor you would like. amsoil has the best lubricants out there i run their 0w-30 in my jeep and it doesnt burn any, it also starts right up like it does on a 75 degree day when its 0 degrees out, you can go a hole year without changing your oil and you see increased fuel economy. my brother has used it in his 87 grand national with 80,000 miles on it for a while and a couple months ago when he pulled the valve covers off to replace the valve springs it looked like it was a brand new engine i wish i had pictures because none of us could believe it

I gotta doubt any increase in milage! I doubt the worst milage oil and the best milage oil would be findable by the driver.. Perhaps highly sophisticated machines could find a mile in a tank but real people???

if you were to use lets say pensoil oil and then switched over to amsoil you would get better milage

How would one be able to tell?
If that is really true, why?
