You overfilled it. You only need a few pumps of grease in there, unlike a ujoint where you pump it until it comes out. As the shaft compresses, so does the grease so it has to go somewhere.

FYI, it's a grease "zerk" not "zert" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
