I'd say regear...cheaper, easier to do etc.. and if your looking for a shop to do it I'd recommend S&S Off-Road on Miller Valley Rd right behind Chuy's, Shane's a good guy <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Thanks for recoomending a shop Iron springs off road tried to tell me the rear dana 44 doesn't have anything in common with a real dana 44

Its was said above; but just to be clear it is the differentials (axles) that people are refering to when they say 'regear', not the transmission. Also, the front and rear axle gear ratios need to match (or be within 2% of one another at most); so if you regear you must do both ends of the truck. Hey Sean thanks for clearing that up for me, I was a little confused about what exactly I can get re-gearà So if I decide to do that, whatÆs the biggest ratio I can go with my truckÆs differentials? Is there a specific brand that you guys recommend? Something that wonÆt be too much work and would make it more affordable on labor if I get it done by a shop. If you re-gear the diff. would you recommend installing a locker as well to save some $$? Thanks Sal

Gears are not really a DIY project. You can do *some* of the prep, like removing the center section on the Isuzu axles. But, that does not work with the D44
Gear work is also expensive. It is expensive because it takes skill, some specialized tools and it is part art. The cost of the gears and/or locker are almost the smallest part of the whole deal. You want the setup to be good because if it fails, it fails in a bad and expensive manner.
Just so you are prepared. You are looking at probably ~$500/axle in labor for a shop to R&R the gears. Plus gears, plus locker. At least that much per axle for locker and gears (An ARB is even more).
