Need a Spot
I'm sure there have been many posts on this subject, but if you don't mind, I'm new and need some info please. My 2004 Wrangler Sahara has the "death wobble" from time to time. I now have a 2" Skyjacker lift, and new MT Classic II (15X8), but I was getting the wobble before I put any of this on there and I am still getting it sometimes. It is around 50 miles an hour and seems to be dependent on how fast I accelerate through 50. It has happened a couple of times since I put the lift and wheels on it a couple of weeks ago. What can cause this, and is there a cure? Thanks for the info and keep your tires muddy!

Body Damage is Cool
First, do a few things. (1) Check all steering components for wear or looseness (tie rod ends, etc.). (2) Check the wheel alignment, particularly the toe-in adjustment. (3) Check the front wheel bearings and races for wear and tightness of the hub nut.

After checking/fixing all that, test drive it again and get back to us.

so making a jeep very slightly toe in would cause it to deathwobble?

No. A slight toe-in setting is usually what is specified. Having a toe-out measurement is what can sometimes cause the problem.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a similar issue on my 82 CJ7, but my CJ is a different monster. I have a SOA lift (about 6" inches) with 36x12.5x15" Super Swampers.

I am currently installing a new power steering box, tie rod assembly (knuckle to pitman), and a complete ES master bushing set. They were all worn out.

I'll let you know in a few days when she is all back together..

Old Man Emu steering stabilizer fixed the legendary "Death Wobble" on my 91 XJ.

New tires, balance and alignment helped for awhile but it came back and I almost lost it in the rain doing 50.
Scary as hell to say the least!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Nothing since getting the new stabilizer. Sold the 91 to a buddy who has recently put a 3" lift and bigger tires, he's had no problems with the wobble,yet...

I have to wonder if a dual stabilizer setup would be better for lifted Jeeps with larger than stock tires.
