Yep! Everything is different. The 91 is a fuelie and the 90 is carbed. There IS a way to install the short bolck from the 90 into the 91 and use everything else from the 91.. But it is rather involved..
If all you need is an engine you will need a 91 up to directly swap.

no bj the 90 is a fuelie( if an xj) i have a 89 and it is fuel injected. but he is right in 91 they did change alot. from the brake rotors to head design and so on.

Need a Spot
I am trying to go from the '91 to the '90. I was thinking about using just the block and head from the '91 and leaving the intake from the '90 there. Will this pose a problem? What exactly, besides the computer, makes the high output different from the regular 4.0 ?
