I've heard that some of the transmissions in older Jeeps only pump fluid in neutral and not in park. Is that true for my 87 Cherokee with the 4.0L, not sure which tranny is in it.

Wow, did I stump you guys? Nobody has ever heard of some Jeep transmissions only pumping in Neutral and not in Park?

The only Jeep auto tranny I'm familiar with if the TF 999 in my CJ7. It pumps in all gears and N & P.


1977 CJ-7, fiberglass body, AMC 360 w/ headers, DUI ignition, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4150 carb, TF999, Dana 300, 4.56 gears lockers, York air comp, 4" susp lift, 2" body lift, BFG 35" M-T tires, Megashifter, AGR pump & box, REP8000 winch.

i dont know exactly but a friend of mine told me that they only pump in neutral. he had an older jeep he used to push snow with and he blw abu 4 or 5 trannys till he had a mechanic friend of his tell him to let it warm up in neutral and he started doing that and never had a problem after that so try it that wy it may help you

well if its true thats good to know i got my 78 cherokee but no ive never heard of it either


If you cant get there in a jeep you probably dont need to get there
