Where is the best and/or place to mount a CB antenna on my '95 Toyota Pickup?

Supposedly you get the best signal as far away from the cab as possible. So on either bumper or on the bedrail, or on top of the cab. I welded a tab to the top of my bedrail near the tailight.

I was told by the CB shop that the best place was in the middle of the top, so that is where I mounted mine.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
You want your antenna to be as high up as possible with the largest ground plane possible. A ground plane is basically anything connected to the - side of your battery (the truck body). So your antenna should be right in the middle of the largest ground plane, such as your roof. You should also get an SWR meter to match the antenna to the CB

What's the best way to mount it onto the top of the cab?

Are the cheap magnetic ones any good?

Also, where is the best place to run the wire? Through the rear window?

my cheapie $20 walmart one has worked well.

the trick is tuning the antenna to the radio with an SWR meter...

I've got one mounted on the cab, top and centered, works great <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

As for mounts, there's lots of ways to do it, hardmounting is usually best for reception, my antenna came with the hard mount, had to drill a whole through the cab for the coax, but the antenna can be removed and a little cap to cover the coax connection when not in use

the man's right! tuning is key. i work with truck drivers who have put cheap units in their rigs and work out fine as long as they're tuned correctly. i've been told that you want at least 2/3's of the antenna to be above your cab. that's how one of my drivers installed and tuned mine and i've had no problems so far(3+ years with 4 different cb's and the same cheap antenna).
