my cheapie $20 walmart one has worked well.

the trick is tuning the antenna to the radio with an SWR meter...


the man's right! tuning is key. i work with truck drivers who have put cheap units in their rigs and work out fine as long as they're tuned correctly. i've been told that you want at least 2/3's of the antenna to be above your cab. that's how one of my drivers installed and tuned mine and i've had no problems so far(3+ years with 4 different cb's and the same cheap antenna).
