I kinda worded that badly. I hated my magnetic antenna because it would get knocked off by a tree branch no more than 5 feet into a trail every time. Truthfully, I couldn't drive through my driveway without it being knocked off. That is NH though, I'd assume Cali has less trees, although I've never been there.

On the road, it worked fine though, as there were no branches to knock it off. I only really need it for <200yrd range, and both my antennas have worked fine within that range without tuning them.

How about bolting one on the back corner of my bed? Not in the bed, but on the wall. I'm not too excited about drilling a hole in my cab.

Like I said, for the short distances I've ever used mine at and without it ever being tuned, it works fine mounted on the bed rail. Theres a little triangle welded on the inside corner of the bed. I have a black 4ft Firestik fiberglass antenna. Can kinda see where above the passenger tailight:
