I've been using the Motive bleeder for years. I love it, it works great. Sometimes using the old fashioned way can help break loose a stubborn bubble though because your foot applies much more pressure than the 10-15psi the bleeder does.

The LSP/BV doesn't have anything directly to do with the ABS. If it were grossly maladjusted (or completely failed), the rear tires could lock up too easily setting off the ABS, but that isn't very likely. More often (in my experience), the rears end up getting too little pressure. Especially with oversized tires.

So, I switched back to 87 octane at my last fillup. Last night, at about 195 miles into that tank, I cleaned the MAF. It really made a big difference. Better idling and more responsive. I just filled up again. This time I got 13.9 mpg, up from 12.6 mpg. Plugs and wires are next. Just did synthetic in both diffs. If I can get it to 15 mpg, that'll be cool with me. After getting my injectors cleaned and just replacing the front O2 sensor along with new plugs and wires, my mileage is at 17. That is much better than I was getting.

I have a stock 1998 T100 4WD SR5, 3.4L, with 76,000 miles on it, running 265/70-16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo tires. I've taken 2 long trips since last December, both 1,000+ miles. I usually drive 75 mph on the highway. My best mileage between tanks was 21.4 mpg. For local in-town driving I get 18 mpg.

I too was getting horrific gas mileage, about 12 mpg. What worked for me, I throughly cleaned the mass air flow sensor. I replaced the O2 sensor (the one closest to the engine). I then disconnected the battery for approx. half hour. Hey Eric. My 93 3.0 4wd T gets rotten 12-14 mpg too. 149K. O2 sensor flange has unweldeditself and I have a small exhaust leak there. Have a replacement pipe to put in. Should I also put in a new front sensor and what is a good price / supplier? And what is the MAF? Got the download for the fsm and do not see such a thing in the parts list. How to "clean" etc. At over $3 a gallon, gotta do something. Suggestions please.

A leakdown test for your age vehicle wouldn't hurt. The restriction of the stock crossover commonly burns out the #4, #6 exhaust valves, from what I've read in the past. That's why putting a header on this mill is popular; to open that up a bit.

Thanks. Already bought the Denso plugs, just gotta put them in. Got cap, rotor and wires as well. Will clean the AFM too. good article reference. I have seen lots of discussion on the O2 sensor as well. Your opinion - factory or aftermarket and why? Gonna replace the exhaust pipe today. Keeping the existing one as all it needs is a reweld of the boss for the sensor.. Metal is good. Just can't get at it easily while on the car. One more thing - what header product and where to go for one. Will it bolt up to the standard exhaust parts?

They're like 2/3 the cost of getting them from the dealer. Got 'em in my older trucks, and they seem to be fine w/them.
Make sure you inspect the condition of the harnesses too; that's a gotcha.

Most seem to lean towards Downey and LCE headers for the 3.0. Check the how-to on www.off-road.com/toyota. Check our Toyota section here too; might have a writeup by now.
