Is this a locker or a limited slip or both? Is it worth it?

The PowerTrax No-slip locker is a locker. A limited slip differential has clutches (kinda like yer auto transmission). A LSD will still slip a little but a locker locks up both wheels.

Are you looking to git a No-Slip?

How do you like it vs a full on locker?

I recently put Truetracs in my T100 too (front and rear) when I swapped to 4.56's from 4.88's (anyone want to buy my 4.88 diffs?). They're defintely better than open diffs, but nothing compared to lockers offroad. I haven't played with them offroad a whole lot yet though since this isn't my wheeling rig, but I did mess around enough to notice the difference. If off-road performance was my goal, I'd defintely have gone with lockers though. There is just no comparison. My goal was good street/snow traction and a little bit of improvement offroad compared to stock.

And on-road the rear truetrac works well to keep that inside tire from peeling out when pulling out of a corner in a hurry, especially when things are wet or slippery. The rear Tundra LSD I had worked well too until the clutches wore out... which is why I decided to swap to the Truetracs.

Would a locker in the rear really make the driving that difficult and dangerous in the road? How about a Detroit in the back and ARB in the front?

I don't think anyone said anything about difficult/dangerous?

Basically an auto locker just has some quirks that you get used to. I haven't used one on the street, so I don't have any personal experience. Basically from what I understand, in tight corners if you give it gas it will lock up and scrub a tire or sometimes buck or bang. So from what I've heard, you learn to try to mostly coast through corners. I'm sure some of the others here can give a better description.

The nice thing about the auto locker is that its on all the time and doesn't necessarily lock up or scrub a tire unless you're on the gas. With the ARB you are a full spool or open, nothing in between for street traction when you need it (although I'll turn it on if I think I'm going to peel out of a corner or something ). That's one reason I like the LSD's for the street.

The other thing about an LSD or locker is that in really slippery or icy situations, the rear end will slip out if you're on the gas because both tires will spin, whereas with the open diff, one tire generally would have spun while the other one stayed put and kept you from moving sideways. I think the traction advantage is worth it though. You just have to modify your driving slightly.

On my 4runner, I locked the front first (LockRight) since in 2wd or when the hubs are unlocked it had no affect on my commuting (at the time), and then later I saved up and put an ARB in the rear. Kind of backwards from what most people do, but I'm happy with it.

If you're safe and sane with the gas pedal as it is, the learning curve with a locker is easy and should not present any big concerns. You'll get some tire scrub in tight turns and parking lots. On the rare occasions when you get slick weather down there, you'll want to be careful of side slip from punching the gas, as well as when you get a lot of water on the road, but other than that....pretty strightforward imho.

Detroit historically has a better reputation than the Powertrax products, but also the T100/Tacoma/Tundra offering from Detroit is newer to the market than the NoSlip for these differentials. I had a NoSlip for a couple of years and enjoyed it before I upgraded to ARBs. I would definitely stick with a LSD or ARB up front, and there, adding any traction unit up front can be lethal to the ifs if you're not careful with the gas in situations where you might suddenly catch traction, especially on oversized tires. That said, simply making sure the wiring between the seat and brain is in order can prevent a lot of problems and net you years of benefit from either unit.

edit- Erik beat me to the click. Lots of good points.

I really like my limited slip compared to a locker, great in the sand, locker however would be better, but i get around in 2wd in the sand just as well as my buddies with automatic lockers.
