Yeah I was missing a few brain parts wasn't I? Nope it should be a fuelie.

As for water and gasoline mixing.. not without some soap it won't.. The water goes to the bottom of the tank and is pumped sporaticly depending on the amount of water in the tank. Water was not mentioned..BAD GAS was.

Jim
The water being sporaticly pumped from the tank can cause rough idle. That is something that should be looked at. Gas is not pumped from the top of a tank into your car it is pumped from the bottom i.e. causing more water than gas to go into your tank. Of course this is assuming that the place giving the gas has a leak in there system

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have to agree with Jim, that it is not a fuel issue, at least not with the fuel in the tank, especially since he drove it home, if there were contaminated gas in it, he would have seen this problem as soon as he accelerated, especially with a carbed engine. Enough water to cause this problem in a car is very rare, it would have to have been sitting for a years and would have to have been E10 fuel, and even then I don't know. Extremely huge problem with boats but very rare on cars.

I'd agree though that is is a fuel problem as far as fuel being supplied to the engine, I would start off by checking the choke and look for any vacuum leaks.

Body Damage is Cool
It might also be a clogged vent on the tank. I've had that happen on a few cars. Sometimes, if a vent is glogged, the engine will run until a vacuum builds up in the tank. If it dies after running a while (but not long enough to heat up ignition parts), that could be the problem. Easy enough to check, After it dies, immediaely take the gas tank cap off and try to restart the engine.

its a fuel injected engine, when i try to start it i can smell the fuel so i know it is getting it..i just replaced the fuel filter and it once again idled for about 2 seconds and then died. It tried to turn over twice afterwards and still will not continue running. What kind of chemical can i put in to evaporate the water, the truck did sit up for a year prior to my purchase, or so im told.

okay, sheer dumb luck got me to stumble on this answer....i was thinking maybe the coil was goin badd, so i was looking at to get an idea of what i needed to order and i noticed the wires on the coil's blade connectors were loose, so i got the pliers and tightened them up...what do you know it starts and runs with no problems.
