I just happen to think that most of the problem here is the environment.

The fact is that the geology of Florida is pretty much an ancient sandbar. Go to the beach and stand on the sand. Now picture those trails made of that material. There is no solid ground. That makes it pretty much impossible to go wheel anywhere without having a tire spin, digging a rut, or disturbing the trail in some way.

Just something to take into consideration before passing judgment.

I am quite comfortable passing harsh judgement, because the terrain was red clay and the few trees that were standing will not be standing for long. It also promoted a style of wheeling that took no account for adding to erosion.

It was not a beach. I stand by it. The standard cannot be 'no impact'... but the videos above were a LONG way from no impact.

The color doesn't mean it was clay. I have red sand in my backyard. I understand it is not a beach, sorry if my comparison caused confusion. The way the stuff was getting turned by the tires is what I recognize as sand, so I guess both our assumptions can be cleared up by the original poster.

I guess my point is that a definition of low impact for your area cannot be the same universally.

I have seen 1st hand much worse performed by state and county "environmental" officials.

Sitting on a hill going nowhere but digging holes and speeding the undermining of the tree on top of the hill is a universal no-no.

Leaving the relatively stable flat section of trail and driving up the eroded side of a hill, again below a tree, and parking there only to look like cool d00ds, is a universal no-no.

Promoting the same as cool and 'digging to china' does not rawk - it is irresponsible.

I understand different environments require different standards. Watch the videos again. It portrays a 4x4 'coolness' and 'fun' that will destroy the sport. It won't stop until each of us start calling each other out for doing it - consistently - here and on the trail.

yes that was cool.the tree hugger nazis dont rule the whole world yet.not saying we should pave the whole world but theres room to have fun too

OK, let me be more forthright.

It's not about the "tree hugger nazis" ruling the world. It's about what the trail will look like even ONE year from now, it's about how many months those trees will even be standing, it's about making things pukey ugly instead of caring for the places we love.

Not to mention, even being able to wheel that area ten, five, even one year from now due to the damage. A little environmental intelligence is called for.

No it is not cool. No it is not acceptable fun. And yes we all need to change the way we think about it whether anyone from the green side slaps us or not. You are destroying my chosen form of backcountry recreation, you are stepping on ME, for an hour's worth of fun.

I turn in people who do this sort of thing. Call me a nazi and I will thank you. We are losing hundreds of trail miles every year because of this sort of thing, and we deserve to lose them due to the damage. Time to stop it.

X2 I was going to say the same but didnt want to start anything.

Well written. Speak your mind and do not worry about starting anything. These are our trails to run and when they are gone, they are gone. I rode MC dirt bikes for years and watched some of the best trails in California get closed. I carry my camera in my rig all the time and when I see something going on I snap pictures then I talk to the persons. I have only been threaten once with bodily harm e and the person backed down real fast when a 6Æ10ö friend walked up (I am 5'5") and asked ôwhat is the problem hereö. Remember, these are the trails we want to stay open. Call me a Nazi, I do not care. I have been known to hug a tree or two!!!!

ok, if you dont like it dont read, look at or comment on it... if you wanna keep slamming us then go ahead. bottom line is you made an assumption. it was a natural washout caused by the pit being there, if they hadnt mined the pit there then it wouldnt have eroded , maybe we moved a little sand ,so what? it fills in the pit and it goes back to how it was naturally. seems to me like somebody got some sand in their . we werent trying to be cool or anything of that nature we were simply having fun doing what we love, if you want to take it away well then weve got problems.... hmm sounds kind of like what you were saying in the earlier posts.... this video is not going to be the cause...
