I've never seen or had any problems with the factory brackets, but I've seen a bunch and repaired several of those first failed drop brackets. The one I built for my T100 I made out of 3/8" material and it seems to be holding up just fine to the mostly mild wheeling it sees with a 3.4 and 35's.
