if im slowing down from 5th gear on down the 2nd, occasionally it the front will get very shakey and the only way to stop it is to slow down to about 15mph. I've stopped quickly using the brakes without this happening...would alignment cause this or is there another reason?

If the entire front end is getting shakey at such times, then the problem is likely in the suspension or steering system, rather than in driveline parts.

Yes, a bad alignment of the front end could cause the problem. But before taking it in for a wheel alignment, I'd suggest that you check all the front end pqrts, looking for looseness and wear. Check such things as tie rod ends, draglink ends, etc. Worn parts in these areas could cause the problem, and you'll need to insure they're up to snuff before getting the wheel alignment.

You also may have worn wheel bearings or knuckle parts. Jack up both sides of the front end. Gripping each tire at top and bottom, see if you get any play when attempting to move the tire. Have a buddy hold the steering wheel solid, and do the same thing while gripping the tire at front and rear. It helps to have another buddy look for movement while you're shaking the wheels.

After doing all this, get back to us and let us know what fixed the problem, or if it still exists.

ok, after this i am doing a total idiot check on my entire truck...last time there was a loose connection to my ignition coil that was causeing it not to run...now the front end bounce was solved by tightening all the lug nuts(which was only 3 per tire) I got replacements for the missing nuts and it has not bounced since, even on the road that would always make it do bounce...the lug nuts were on so loosly that i needed no force at all to remove them...the previous owner of this truck must have neglected common sense check ups throughout his ownership

Well, I guess the bad news is that the lug nuts were probably something you should have checked as soon as you got the vehicle.

The good news is that you found the loose lug nuts before a wheel came off at freeway speed, and that nobody got hurt before you found them.

All us Jeepers are aware of the old saying, "Sometimes, it's the simplest things..."
