Toyhooter,
I hope you found this place ok. That other forum has some traffic but nowhere near the traffic and resultant knowledge on this mitsu 4x4 forum. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Conclusion from all the feed back and actuall part replacement. #1 throttle body failure is a known problem but rare #2 hard to say if the failure you encounter can be fixed #3 does not seem to be age or milage related. Fidle valve fails because it wants to. #4 replaced my throttle body and all is well again
and now the mitsubishi super happy bonus conclusion is
#5 my combination driving MPG has increased by 9.25%. increasing from barely 16.8 MPG to 18.1 MPG Thanks to all for great feedback information

Glad you got it fixed.
Can I have your old throttle body?
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Sorry. I left the old TB with the dealer. I usually ask to keep old/defective parts. Not this time. I guess I draw the line between stuff I might be able to rebuild and stuff that will just hang around on my work bench.

I know this is a old thread but I am trying to figure out a high idle problem (2k hot or cold) on an 89 3.0 montero. I am at the point of replacing the TB. I was wondering what a Fidle valve is and if the 89 has the same thing. I have covered the entire TB and intake with soapy water hoping to get some indication of a vacuum leak but nothing.

The thread is old but it varifies what I experienced earlier this year. I had a fast idle and I did all the things mentioned in the FSM and by folks here on the forum. I was scared away from buying a new TB by the price, so I took a chance and went to car-parts.com and found a wrecking yard in ID that had a TB for my 89 3.0. I got it for $65 including shipping to WA. My idle is now adjustable and stable right on spec. Since the guys here say it is a rare failure, your chances of getting your idle fixed with a used TB may be pretty good.

I did that with one of mine. Couldn't get the idle to come down. Finally traced it to a bad TPS sensor. I got a TB from a yard, slapped it on and no mo problem. I got the one cause I played with the idle screw so I had no clue where it was stock.

Hey thanks for the reply! I have filled out their parts finder deal and I am waiting for a reply. They did not have one at the time I looked today. I contacted the salvage yards around here and no one has one.
I would love to find one and try it. I have my doubts that I could even find a new one for any price.

I got the one cause I played with the idle screw so I had no clue where it was stock. Thanks for the help. I have replaced the TPS and the ICS, cleaned the TB really well. I have had the ECU check out and it was fine. I must have a vacuum leak but I can't find it. My assumption is that it is leaking somewhere in the TB. I commented over on another thread: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.p...;gonew=1#UNREAD about this. There is some sort of wax pellet that controls air in the TB during cold operation. I don't know if this is part of my problem cause mine stays at 2k hot or cold.
