Body Damage is Cool

Okay, I must be really THICK headed this week, as I am having issues.
2000 Rodeo, D44 w/LSD. I am installing a 3020 No-Slip and trying to slide the axles out of the dif housing. I unbolted the four retaining bolts that screw into the axle tube. CP mentions in his directions on the main Isuzu page that it takes some persuasion. Im cool with that, have BFH, will travel. So, in looking through the FSM, install directions, etc I would imagine that I have gotten everything removed to allow for it to slide out. Where might one put the wacker pole onto for leverage? Is it really that simple? Any experienced opinions welcomed.
I am inclined to just nail the end of the axle with said BFH, cushioned with a chunk of wood to protect the axle...
Thanks!

you need to be hitting down on the flange, perpendicular (or semi-perpendicular) to the housing. hitting straight on the end of the axle isn't going to do anything.
I know some people use a slide hammer to pull outwards on the shaft... but I generally have pretty good luck just working on it with a hammer and chisel/screwdriver around where the flange meets the tube.
yes, its really that simple, four bolts is all that holds it on.

Alrighty... so by pound on the end of the flange/housing, that "frees" up the bearing to coax it out?
Wow... guess I am fairly dense right now. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
Thanks for the help

right, the retaining flange doesn't just bolt to the outside of the axle, but kinda slips down in the tub with a real tight, almost interference like fit. This is what builds up rust and can make it really tough to pull the shaft off. Once you break the rust free, the flange will start to slide out of the tube a good inch or so and then the shaft will be free.

Find a 2x4 that can reach across the vehicle, with the wheels off. Use a sizable hammer to drive the opposite axle across from within each wheelwell.

a few raps on the flange housing with a 2# sledge freed the axles...
Got the LSD carrier out and removed all the spiders, clutches, etc... only two were cracked.
As soon as the locker arrives, we will reassemble and get it back under the rig.
This weekend, complete the No Slip and 3" body lift install...
next weekend, complete the suspension lift and trimming for the 33s.

I had to end up renting a slide hammer to get mine out when I did my locker. They were a bit stubborn even with the slide hammer. Once they had a few good hits though, they slid right out.

Replace the grease seals if you think you may have damaged them when removing the axles.
