Hey guys, I just bought a 92 SR5 xcab and the buzzer that goes off when the door is open with the key in the ignition is driving me insane. I spent about a half hour screwing around under the driver side dashboard trying to find the buzzer, but i can't seem to get at it. Any advise would be great Thanks!

Unfortunately on that body style I think the buzzer box may be connected to the back of the instrument cluster. And if it's anything like the earlier generations, you'll lose some other random functionality if you just unplug it, like dome light and seatbelt light. You have to find the box, crack it open, and actually disable the buzzer.

I've determined that the buzzer is somewhere behind/near the fuse box by the door on the driver's side. It seems pretty impossible to get at without tearing apart the fuse box.

armor of choice: flat head screw driver
When I got insanly insane (like you) about 3yrs ago, I proceeded to stick the blade of the screwdriver into the origin of the buzzer noise. I remember it was inside the fuse box by the driver left leg. I peeled it open just enough to jam the blade in & basically pry/destroy the unit which makes activates the noise!

I think the easiest thing to do would be to put a switch inline from the button on the door, then you could use it when it made sense to....which is? I dunno.
I wish my headlight buzzer worked, or I wish I had one to begin with. I keep leavin the lights on...

If you don't need/desire the dome light to come on when the drivers door is opened, just unscrew the button at the door and unplug it.
Or, if the buzzer is a problem for listening to the stereo with the door open, just wire the stereo to the the battery and not an keyed ignition source.

I believe you can get an aftermarket one, there was one wired into the fuse panel on an '86 Runner I rebuilt a few yrs ago. It was annoying loud, if you are leaving the headlights on because you are using them as daytime driving lights, install a set of auxillary driving lights and wire the trigger wire(for the relay) off of the ignition.

Im not sure if this applies to a '92 but this worked on my '04 Taco:
Theres a blue connector under the dash that connects to the ignition switch. Its got a green wire with red stripe and a white wire with black stripe. Just unplug the connector with a pair of needle nose pliers and it kills the buzzer and your dome light will still come on when the doors open.

pull the cover off that surrounds the ignition keyhole, there's a plastic switch on the top of the ignition, either remove the ignition to take it off, or if you know you'll never want the annoying noise (like me), hammer a flathead screwrdriver in between it and the ignition switch and break it off. problem solved <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
