Hello. I have a problem with the trans on my 2ooo tundra 4x4 with the 4.7. Shifting seems normal from a start until the third to overdrive shift. OD is on. sometimes it will slam into od. usually about 52 mph at about 2100 rpm sometimes it wont. Fluid is clean but is due for a flush. 88k on truck. any insights would be greatly appreciated. ps. the check engine light is not illuminated, so no code..

Ok Updated. Had the truck to the dealer, I hate letting someone else work on it but had to. Power flushed trans. apparently they dont need to drop the pan? Thought thats how you accessed the screen to clean it? does any one know? Thats what they told me but I dont trust them. So the trans fluid is clean but overfilled. have to drain a little out, but the problem seems to have subsided for now.

Doesn't it take that Toyota Type-IV fluid? At almost $30/gallon what did it cost for the flush? Has anyone found a substitute for that stuff? Is it synthetic or a blend?

My 2001 tundra manual states regular dexron III or equivalent.

Yeah thats what i was pissed about toyota says that the power flusher will clean the screen. Nothin will clean it better than takin it out?? so they charged 145.00 for a fluid flush and refill (dextron II or III). And they over filled it by about 2 quarts. I let some out at home. Since the service she's still towing the 3500 lb chipper, and shifting just fine.

It cost about 145.00 for the dealer to flush and fill. Toyota calls for dextron II or III. I dont know if they make a synthetic version of that?

I did a lot of research on Tundras because I'm thinking of selling my T100 and going to a Tundra. What I found is that the 2000-2002 Tundras have a lot of overdrive transmissin problems. They start exactly the way you describe with it slamming into OD from third. Apparently there is something wrong with the planetary gears/bearings. If they pull the pan there will likely be a bunch of metal in it and they will tell you that you need a rebuild. I'm sorry I couldn't have a better story for you but thought it would be good to let you know so that you don't spend more money on flushes, etc.

I had my trans go on the T100 due to a hose breaking going to the cooler. It ran dry and fried it. The rebuilt cost about $2600. The shop told me about the Tundra problem as well. Do a search on the internet and you will get a lot of info. So much info that I decided to hang on to my T100.

Where did you get your info? I am interested in doing some research of my own. I have put another 300 miles on the truck since the flush and fill, but it still is shifting fine. I wanted to know what the avg mileage this occurs as my tundra is at only 89,000. Will synthetic fluid help?
