My 86 beater 4Runner passed the biennial smog test today. I didn't realize it was this clean running-although I have never had any problems with it during the 5 yrs I owned it.

Here are some pics of the old spark plugs.

These are about 2yrs old and approximately 15K miles. Seems to me that it's running a bit on the hot side. Anything to worry about?

Running hot for sure. Your centre electrodes are seriosly worn for only 15k. For colour #1 (extrem left one in picture)is the only one that looks good but a lot of centre electrode wear for 15k. What'sw the NGK plug # for these plugs. Also your gap on 3 & 4 seem tight but it might just be the shadow in the picture. How much alcohol in the gas your using.

Body Damage is Cool
There are no indicators of running hot. They're just clean. They aren't glazed from excessive heat, and there's no indication of preignition damage.

The wear looks typical for a generic plug.

Replace and continue on your merry way.

All plugs are gapped the same. They're NGK plugs--part# BPR5EA-L. I have no clue of the amount of alcohol that's in the gas I'm using, maybe less than most states. I don't fill up at any particular station or brand. It's wherever I happen to be when my tank is low.

Plugs have already been replaced with Denso plugs prior to smog test. I'll pull the plugs in another 10-15K miles and have a look.

I try to keep my vehicles in OK condition. I've never had one that would fail the smog test. Hope I don't jinx myself next time around!
