Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've been thinking of changing over to a K&N or similar cotton type air filter element. Anyone had experience with it on a T100?

I have used them on a Isuzu and an airplane ( yes K&N does make them for airplanes) and they worked well on those applicaions.

I'll never use one again after it let dust into the intake and made no noticable performance increase. Others have had similar results. I think its a snake-oil/marketing thing. The stock paper filters work fine. I did run an Amsoil filter for a few years, and that one worked ok filtration-wise (but no performance gain). It was messy though, so I switched back to paper.

Also (not on the T100, but other later models) the oil can get onto the heated temperature sensor wire in the MAF and cause poor running/performance until its cleaned again.

To me, they just cause more problems than they solve.

Body Damage is Cool
Another no vote on the K&N. Same reasons Erik cited. I don't even carry it as a spare. OEM filters all around.

Every time this discussion comes up I think of this old post from back in '02.
Some oil analysis results...

This post was all it took for me to stay with factory paper filters... I do factory oil filters as well.

Need a Spot
I'm a recovering K&N addict...I have them in my 'T, 4Runner two of them on my VW (dual carbs) but I'm going to get rid of them and go back to OEM like other people have said. My problem with them has been keeping them oiled, seems once they dry-out their done filtering anything, so the 'T and 4Runner are going back to paper filters and the VW foam Uni filters (since it's mainly used off-road).

FWIW I recently read an article about AEM filters which are a K&N-type filter though they never need to be re-oiled which might be a benefit if you really wanted to stay away from OEM or paper filters.
