If you get a small container of R-134a and the hose to hook it up to the car, you should be able to recharge the system pretty easily, but you need to be careful. Because your low-side fitting is on the compressor, the chances are greater that you can damage/ruin the compressor by allowing liquid to enter. When you charge your A/C system, don't turn the can upside down - leave it right side up. It will take longer, but you won't hurt the compressor. If you want to make it charge a bit faster you can place the R-134a can into some warm water to increase its pressure.
