Unless I'm WAY off base here, unsprung weight is in reference to weight not supported by the suspension ie: wheels, tires, axles, etc. So unsprung weight can vary greatly with different wheel tire combinations.

DANG IT! i hate it when I'm wrong in front of other people.. ha ha ha..

OK let me amend that... I'm wanting to know the weight of everything supported by the springs. So anything from springs down is out, everything from springs up is in! Does that make sense????

You could take it to a scrap metal recycling type place & weigh it, then guesstimate how much less it weighs without axles, wheels, tires, etc.
After seeing the depth of knowlege around here, I'm guessing someone knows how much axles & stuff weigh.

That'd be a good place to start depending on how exact this needs to be. Most truck stop gas stations (Flying J, etc) have scales as well. Weigh the whole truck and then subtract 600-700# for the axles and tires.

Not sure what to think about this new guy... might be a good idea just to ban him now <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Hey...I rather doubt I'll need any help from you in that regard. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Check your driver side door jamb, there is a sticker that gives front & rear axle weights. You should be able to figure percentage f/r with that info.

I am pretty sure those numbers are weight ratings, not curb weights. Generally useless with regards to the actual weight of the vehicle.

Sadly, the best/only way to do this is to get it weighed front and rear and go from there. Don't forget the full tank of gas and you in the driver's seat. You should also account some for being fully stocked for a trail run. Anything less and you are liable to squat bad when loaded.

Good Luck,
Michael

I have a 99 rodeo rear axle sitting on the floor of my garage, I would guess its about 150-200 lbs. I can readily pick up one end, picking up the whole thing is out of the question (for me atleast).

Tires...100 or so lbs ea w/wheels
