Looks like I'm about to put on my 4th one.
Has anybody tried to machine some bronze bushings , or something. My bushing on the idler are allowing some verticle slop again , giving sloppy steering.

KevinC made one that looked very good - send him a PM and see if he has another. A few folks have replaced the idler bracket with another steering box on the passenger side.

Bob Shaw developed a way to 'recycle' his by tossing it in his press every time it gets sloppy and getting rid of the play. I can't describe it but it made perfect sense when he showed me in person.

Put a steering box over there. His post is serious. Nittberg (sp?) did it.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I did it but it started to fail when the centre spindle(if that's what it's called) started getting dry cos the welding wasn't perfect and there was a hole in the back plate welded on. Grease wasn't packing in properly. I went back with a proper idle arm and a bracket to hold in in place. Moreover with the steering box, I noticed there was more wear and tear in the other steering ball joints than with the idle arm.

The wear parts on the idler arm are generally the bushings, right? I've read a long forgotten post where someone carried spare bushings obtained from the dealer...

You need one of Kary's lower idler arm braces. Greatly reduces bushing slop
