Windshield Wipers just stopped working. #808107 04/26/07 01:54 AM

Well I am still trying to get my girl going for a long trip and I noticed today doing a preflight check that the wipers just stopped dead. They worked last time before I had her sit for about a half year.

Looked for the fuse, but all I see is the rear wiper fuse and the front wiper just has a spot for a fuse but no actual connections and/or fuse. I'm running short on time, just wondered if anyone had anything quick to check. Thanks in advance.

unplug the wiper motor and attempt to actuate it with a 12v source directly.

that will tell you if the problem is the motor or the wiring. it won't instantly illuminate the course of action to fix it - but you'll get closer to it

I remember driving a late 90's GM pick up that had the same problem. It was the connection between the motor and harness. If it was moved around or a large bump was hit the wipers would activate for on rotation then stop again. I solved it by folding a piece of paper and wedging it between the two connectors. It worked because the connection was just worn out. I know, the worst handy man fix possible but when you are standing outside in a down pour on a very busy highway that is 110 km/hr posted limit you get things done as quick as you can. What was worse was that the remedy worked for months and the problem wasn't fixed before I left the job, and the work truck forever. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

OK I couldn't find some small jumper wires to use, but when I unplugged the 6 wire connector I was reading 12v on 3 of the connectors. I wasn't sure which points to put 12v too to try and run the motor. It looks like this:

--------
[] [+] []
--------
[+] [+]
--------

So one of the corners doesn't have an actual connector on it. The "+" is where i got 12v when i tested it. I did it quick so don't take my word as gospel.

OK I just pulled out the motor and have been trying to bench test it with no luck so fare. Can someone please guide me to which wires I need to put 12v too in order to absolutely make sure the motor is dead? I'm leaving tomorrow on my trip too so sooner would be better then later. Thanks!

Nick,

1) I'm assuming you checked to make sure the coonecting rod from the motor to the wiper arms didn't come loose. Those coonections are kinda weak there.

2) Long drive??? You going to Moab?
