I was wondering if anyone could help me please. My problem is im looking at buying an 89 trooper 2.6 auto and need to know what to look for and anything that i should avoid. I like the first gen troopers but cant at the moment afford nor do i have the place to buy a project vechile so any help would be appreciated.

The main thing to look for with the 2.6 are a blown head gasket and/or cracked heads. They are good engines if properly maintained.

thank you man. as far as i can tell its fine except for some mild lifter clatter. again thank you

Probably hearing the fuel injectors. Those things are noisy on the 2.6 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

Or loose valves...or an exhaust leak...or a leak in the air rail for the Smog pump....or....

thanks for all the input guys but i didnt get the trooper. i instead found a 92 rodeo 3.1 5 speed for a lil more with nothing wrong so i bought that. again thank you all
