I own a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L. The alternater pully bearing went bad on it so I went and bought a new alternater after having the old tested ,just in case,( it failed ) at Autozone and changed it out myself. After I hooked all the wires and grounds up to where they were supposed to go, alternater mounted correctly, belts tight and battery reinstalled, I started the truck. Everything seemed fine. Sounded good. BUT...the battery and brake dash lights are constantly on. And the 4WD indicator light is staying on also. I am getting 11 volts on the voltometer and it appears afer a couple days of driving that the battery is most definatly not charging back up. This is the first time Ive had a problem changing an alternater.
Has this happened to any of you guys before? And any ideas? Im going to check it over again. I just dont know what the hell it could be at this point.

Did you get a new alt from Isuzu, or one of the "new" (rebuilt) ones from a chain parts store? The chain store alts don't have the best reputation. You'd be much better off having your original alt rebuilt by an actual auto electric place if there is one in your area. Have the one you just put in tested. The chance a random short developed between the time you took out the old alt and put in the new one is slim.

Yup..the "new" alt is the chainstore variety. I heard dealer alts were outrageously expensive...and I'm tighter than bark on a tree . This might be another case of you get what you pay for. Hopefully not.

Do you have a picture of the alternator? I bought some Isuzu factory "rebuilt" alternators on Ebay a while back, cheap. They say Factory Isuzu and "rebuilt" all over the boxes, but look brand new. They have the smaller serpentine belt pulley, one less groove than my 2000 and the round connector for the wiring harness instead of the squared off connector.

'94, and '00 Amigos and '00, 01 Rodeos. Rodeo springs and aftermarket 'hard top on 94. Aisin hubs OME 919's on the 2000 Amigo. 2000 and 2001 Rodeos have OME 912's and Aisin. Smoother ride with the OME 919's???

Hey strawmyers...I took your advice and pulled the new alt and brought it back to be tested. Surprise surprise,it failed! Since that was the only alt they had that I needed, they sent me off to another Autozone 12 miles away for another one. When I got there, the old geeze behind the counter informed me that this one was also the only one they had and that this one wont fail me. And I said," yuh, your gonna test it before I leave Bud." He looked at me like I had two heads and said OK like some old grouch. Surprise surprise...that one failed too!! They gave me my money back and I went to Napa and bought theirs. They tested it for me because they could tell I was out of patience. It was a keeper. I went home , installed it and now everything works. And I'm getting 14.5 at the voltometer

NATO308, Its the round three prong plug, four groove pully.
