Amp may have a short.

Try powering the amp externally (out of the vehicle) with no input and a small (5?) amp fast blow fuse. If it blows, there's some sort of problem.

Then try hooking it up to stereo input (speaker wire) and see what happens when it draws amplification power.

Just a guess, I'm not a stereo guy, but I (usually)know a short when I smell one.
