The 2.8 V6 engine is a GM unit, and the bellhousing on your transmission is unique to the V6 models. I believe it's a 60-degree GM pattern, but I am not a GM expert.

As an aside, the Oldsmobile 4.3l V6 diesel (from front-drive cars only) will bolt to the V6 Trooper bellhousing. A forum member started this conversion a few months ago but gave it up before completion.

Be careful of those ebay engines. Like most others I have seen, this one appears to be a medium-duty truck unit. Notice it has a 2WD transmission (and the shift lever is angled for what appears to be a cab-over application) and no turbocharger. I have talked to that seller in the past. I found his prices to be high and he could not even guarantee the engine would come with the proper transmission! I would look elsewhere.
