Body Damage is Cool
Dunno. When my CJ7 was converted from a 258 to a 360, we went ahead and changed over to a 304 ignition module, since they were so cheap. I gave the 258 module to a buddy who had a 258 to use as a trail spare.

Ok guys... when these ign modules first became popular they slowly changed from this application to another. We identified them by the color of the plastic grommet surrounding the wire entry into the aluminum case. As I remember the first module had a blue grommet and the second was brown..

So here is what I suggest. Maybe looking at the color of the grommet and looking at the plug itself.

As I remember this conversation started with the dist plug not plugging into the loom of the jeep! That alone may be changable by swapping out the electronic pickup inside the two dists.. If that is doable then the thing will plug into the harness and the purple and orange wire may be addressed.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
That sounds like the way to go to me, I just figured it was just as well to change out the distributor for one with the other pick-up not knowing how old the thing is to begin with...

Thanks for all of the help to everyone who has chipped in, I'll give this a try and let you know how it works...
