The worst sound you'll ever hear from your truck. #808989 05/01/07 04:06 AM

I think my engine may have siezed. I had a loud scraping noise that grew worse and then as I slowed down to make a turn the truck stalled. I pulled over and decided to let it cool down somewhat. Checked my oil and found nothing on the dipstick...yikes! Coolant was fine. Used my cell and had some oil brought to me. Started up the truck and travelled about 1/4 mile before it stalled again with bad scraping noise coming from the engine (before it stalled). (This was probably very foolish on my part) Had it towed home on a flatbed. Tried to start it to pull it in my driveway-just a clunk from the starter. I know it's early but does anybody have any advice or thoughts? I replaced the cylinder heads last year. Might I be able to save them (would they be damaged?) and will I be able to rebuild the bottom end or find a new/rebuilt bottom end somewhere and swap it out?

I've had a engine seize on one of my cars. All might not be loss. Pull your spark pugs, Make sure the oil level is where it should be. Put a big fricking wrench on the crank bolt and turn the engine. If your able to turn it, good. After that I don't know what to tell you.

If you seized a cam it generally would take out the belt. You probably lost the bottom end. It would cost less to replace the engine rather than fix it.

How does one go about looking for a bottom end. So far every ad I see says complete engine or heads.

I myself would get an complete engine from one of the Japanese importers. The early engines do not pull much money and you have a few importers not far from you. I have not looked at what they have in stock recently. But if they have one it sure beats getting one from the States for you. Any used engine from either of our countries world have allot of miles and not be any better than what you had.
The other option would be a later 24V engine but will need its wiring swapped in as well.
As it is your heads need to come apart enough the clean the oil passages and check for scoring in the cam journals. I would keep them as spares.

Stay away from those crap re-man engines. Best best is a rebuild if the block is good from a quality machine shop. Next best is a low mile importer like Rising Sun Engines. Then it's a toss up between a junk yard engine and a re-man

What do you think about National Parts LLC? I think they are out of Florida. Am I right in thinking my truck has a short block? I also hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by mentioning a supplier by name.

What importers are you referring to? Can you tell me where they are exactly? Thanks.
