how my auto teacher explained it, its like the old slave times, hence the name. the master is the controling cylinder, forcing fluid out to move the slave cylinder, doin the work. another example is the brakes, except the brakes have four slave cylinders.

the marlin was a little to harsh for me i went with the centerforce and it is working great for me

Yeah about that, this truck is on the road 90% of the time, so am i correct in assuming i'd be better off with a stock-like clutch that alows some slippage instead of going with a clutch like marlins HD? I will be running 33s with the stock 4.10s in the near future, if that makes any difference.

My truck is a commute truck too, i run the centerforce and i have no complaints. i have stock 4.10 gears and 31" tires, not too bad but bigger than toyota intended. thing grabs great at any rpm i drop it at, and stands up to 10 psi tires in jersey sugar sand.

If you're going to be running larger-than-stock tires, especially with larger tires, you'll want a heavier duty clutch than stock. I went all the way and got the centerforce dual friction (run it in two of my vehicles). Pedal pressure is identicle to stock. I run 33's on one vehicle and 35's on the other. Larger tires require letting out the clutch pedal more slowly.

Your symptoms of spinning under hard acceleration do sound like the clutch is going.

If/when you do a clutch, make sure to get the pilot bearing, throughout bearing, pressure plate, clutch disk, and alignment tool. Most clutch kits do not come with both bearings, so make sure to ask. Also plan on having the flywheel resurfaced (around $30). If you don't and the surface is damaged from the slipping, it will wreck the new clutch. Now is also a good time to replace the shifter bushing on the transmission stick and check for oil leaks from the shifter housings on the t-case and transmission, rear output shaft seal, and front input shaft seal, and engine rear main seal. While this sounds like a lot of extra work, it isn't. And you don't want to have to go back in there later for a $10 seal....

Thanks wolftrack, and 10-4 on the seals. I allready have the rear main waiting to be put in. And i allready swapped the shifter bushing for marlin's...big improvement. I may actually go with the cf dual friction after all as this truck will be seeing more rugged use (and abuse <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />) as opposed to DD-ing in the coming months/years.
