While out on my lunch hour, my 90 Trooper broke the left rear leaf center pin/bolt. After 3k miles of Hobart locked rear diff. Rear steering whee what a predicament . For the record two 800# rachets straps one forward, one rearward is not enough to hold a locked axle in place, on me. Call a tow truck if this ever happens to you.

I took off the U-bolts and removed what was left of my rusted center pin. The rightside pin broke during disassemble. Took the U-bolts and pin to Atlas Spring and Axle, a local shop and bought new ones. The last time I worked with the leaf center pins, was when I put the DOR Springz upgrade under my truck. I don't remember if the Springz came with a new pin/bolt or not. No blame implied, my truck is offroaded pretty hard no and then

Gotta love road salt

The DOR stuff did come with a replacement bolt. I usually use grade 8.8 hex head bolts to replace the center pins with. I also grease them liberally with antiseeze, this will stop the rust. Make sure your u-bolts are torqued to spec. Check them occasionally. If the u-bolts allow a little bit of movement, it will slowly grind through whatever you use as a center pin.

I ordered several spare center pins to keep in the glove box after both of mine snapped a few years ago.

And it's a good thing too -- Now I'm down to having just one spare left...
The funny thing is, none of them ever went on *my* rig

Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

No problem -- glad to've helped

I also carry a spare Alternator, a Clutch Master & Slave, a pair of Drive Flanges, several Ball Joints, an Add-a-Leaf, a Steering Box, two Idler Relays, two Center Links, an assortment of Tie Rods, and about 250 pounds of Tools (enough to get me razzed)... all for that very reason

Butts saved so far:

Yep, there's just nothing quite like climbing a steep hill and having your rig get crossed-up in a ditch, with one front wheel high in the air, and almost all of the weight shifted to the rear... your foot jammed to the floor on the brake, leg shaking, waiting for a recovery strap... and the view out of the windshield is nothing but Plumber's Crack

Hey I resemble that remark!
Smiley at least you always take the jokes with a good natured smile and a laugh afterwards. Besides they always make for a good story back at camp.

Yeah ... and you drive automatic, just in case you wanna do a 5speed swap on the trail

Ok so snapping a center pin isn't uncommon
