I thought abou the snorkel but to be honest I think they are an ugly tree limb anchor. Around here we have more trees than big rivers....well except for recently. I think a boat would be more qualified lately though <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />. I don't want the "Ricer" look but I don't want getto either. What do you think, just a cone filter on the end of it? I could bulid a box around it kinda like I did on my 4runner.
Let me start off by apologizing for not keeping up with this build more closely. You know IÆve been kind of busy with my own projects.
Now let me expound on this snorkel idea. IÆll throw this out and see what you think. After all I do own "Ridiculous Equipment".
There is nothing that says a snorkel has to go all the way to the roof line. If you look at the H2 Hummers and even the H1's you will see that their intake hose is actually right in front of the windshield just above the hood valence. (You know the cowling where the wipers come through.)
I have figured out a way to make a hole in the valence and the firewall with a tube through the two holes(without interfering with the wiper arms that are under there.) and put a low intake cover just in front of the of and near the left corner of the windshield. Air Trooper used this idea but he went ahead and ran an intake tube I made to go all the way to the roof line.
On mine I am going to use a square pan painted to match the truck and let it breath outside air up higher than the bumper. (Painted so it doesn't draw unnecessary attention) This way as long as I don't get the back end of the hood underwater it will not ingest water. Eventually I will build an "quick add on tube extension" I can clamp in place of the pan to run the intake tube up the pillar, attaching to a hidden brace mount, up to the roof line if I see a deep crossing coming up. I hate hooking limbs too!
I have several 1st Generation Trooper bodies with the holes drilled in them for this mod.
Want to see some pictures?
I'll check back later and try and post up some pictures of what I'm talking about. (My hands are all dirty right now from the shop, too dirty to touch the camera.) I started doing this on my Rodeo years ago. Then got my hands on the Troopers and it was a natural addition.
It is looking good there.
Decided not to use the back window huh?
Be sure you GIVE it to a good home.
