Need a Spot
That's the plan, now if I can just find one. I'm just trying to find parts that are as compact (and inexpensive)as possible. This isn't going to be a hardcore rig, but I do want it to be reliable, since I will be hauling my family around in it. Have you settled on a tranny/t-case yet? I had thought about a Dana 300/Turbo 350, but the adapters are a $$$$ KILLER.

Check this thread out T-case adapters

I used a stock NP208 adapter going from my 700R4 to Dana 300. It sounds like it should be the same setup for a 350. Much cheaper way to go. Just need a new input shaft for the 300.

Started cutting There ain't no going back now! I still have alot of clean up to do as everyone who has done a sas knows. What is the best way to cut off those cast idler arm brackets? I've tried burning out the welds but not much luck.

I am going to my uncles tomorrow to pick up my Chevy Dana 44 axle and look at a possible ford 9" for the rear.

I plan on building a jig to narrow and rotate the knuckles to match a waggy drivers side axle shaft. Can someone with a waggy axle measure the drivers side tube for me? I need it from the edge of the cast diff housing to some good reference point on the other end. I am trying to figure out if I just narrow one side, will I be wider than a waggy dif.

Oh, I need a Driver side waggy shaft and a passenger side inner Chevy shaft if anyone has some lying around.

Body Damage is Cool
A bunch of cutoff wheels and an angle grinder will get the big chunks off. Then smooth it out with a grinder wheel.

Picked up some parts today. The dana axle needes a drverside inner shaft but I picked it up for $100 and The Ford 9" was Free! I Thought it was an 8" at first but I verified it was indeed a 9". I'm going to pull the axles and see what spline count it has. It is out of a car so my width is just right to match a 63" front axle. I will need to buy new blank shafts for it so I can make it 6lug. Or I may just sell it, not sure yet. The tires are on loan so I can use them to set up my height. But I'll probably buy them later if I can find 1 or 2 matching 35" TSL radials since there is only three good ones. They also came with some aluminum Modular wheels that I also need to find one match for.

Just a quick update. I've been doing the dreaded grinding which sucks with my mild case of ADD I grid a little then find something else to do for a while...you know. Anyway I found a '94 Blazer 4x4 with vortec 4.3 I'm picking it up tomorrow. I'm gonna just scrap the truck after I get what I want off of it. I found out today that to get the 61.5" waggy length out of my Chevy axle I need to cut and shorten both sides of the axle, which is ok because I will be rotating my knucles anyway. I'll try and get some pics for the long weekend

Take a wire brush on your grinder and clean up around the brackets. Often times the bracket is only welded on in a few inches -- if you hit that with the torch or disc the bracket falls off with a sledge.

Got my donor vhicle Saturday $375. It is a 1994 4.3 vortec with a 4x4 4l60. Pulled the motor and harness yesterday. Before anyone says anything, I'm not using that t-case Now I've got to get that eye sore of a Blazer out of my driveway. And clean up that mess. It is driving me insane! I've already spilled 2qts of oil on a drive that is only 5 weeks old . Well it was bound to happen eventually. Lucklly all of the mess is behind a big gate so only I have to look at it.

Oh yeah, I have a bit of useful info for those would are planning a dana 44 swap....

Axle shaft dimensions:

Wagoneer front dana44 WMS-WMS Roughly 61.5"
Waggy inner axle shaft lenghts:
Passenger inner shaft =14.69" 30 spline
Drivers inner shaft =33.19" 30 spline

Chevy Blazer Dana44 irregular cover (Don't know what that means but it seems to be the standard on these trucks) WMS-WMS Roughly 67.5"
Chevy axle shaft lenghts:
Passenger inner shaft =18.31 30 spline
Drivers inner shaft =36.13 30 spline

All outer shafts are 9.94" 19 spline on chevys and waggys

Doing the math, I'm 1/2" off some where, and I'm sure it is my measurement of the Chevy WMS's or the waggy WMS's I picked up on the fourm. All axle shaft lenghts were obtained from Warn industries website.

This ultimately means to me that I will be shortening both sides of my axle to get the desired lenght.
