I am having a buddy of mine rebuild my 91' trans. He has everything done except for the adjustment for the band. Does anyone know the adjustment procedure for the band?

I've got the FSM at home.

It would be illegal for me to scan the parts you need and post them, but if you give me your email address I will send you a video of myself relating the data to you by way of interpretive dance. Wink Wink, nudge nudge, and all that stuff.

Oh, and install a very large (like 6 pass or better equivalent) auxilliary transmission cooler and a remote mount transmission filter kit while you're rebuilding it, unless you want to be doing this again in 20,000 miles. smile It's a good enough transmission but you gotta keep it under 180 degrees and squeaky clean from day one. Change the remote mount trans filter at 3000 miles after rebuild, and then again every 10,000 miles with a full trans flush every 20,000 miles. That may seem excessive but it's cheaper and easier than a rebuild.

Charlie, Where are you located?

The 86's tags say Virginia! Is that right?

Your 86 looks like you read my mind on the color scheme of my wife's 89 Trooper we're about to paint. It's nice to have a picture of a Yellow Trooper to get my non imaginative spouse who can't visuilize color changes with out pictures. [Linked Image]

It will be my luck she'll decide to go Red or Purple or something. After all she's a woman, and women don't like to look like everyone else.

Only differences would be hers has a 2.3 L Turbo gas motor, 4:77 gears with limited slip rear diff. and mall crawler chrome everywhere. Even the 86 grill! Plus, we're going all leather interior in light tan.

Don't ask me why but she wants to keep the 8.000k front winch and grill/headlight gaurd I built for her Trooper.

I reinforced the stock front bumper from behind and cut in a winch hole in it. Like I said it'll all be chromed along with the round eye plastic grill.

Welcome to the group!
Looks like you are going to fit in here! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh, man... I hate to do this to you, but after poring through the factory service manuals - AND the 4L30E supplement manual... it says absolutely nothing about the adjustment of the brake band except that "it is factory set and never needs adjusting for the life of the transmission"

Even the exploded assembly diagrams just show it dropping in, with no (labeled) means of adjustment.

If you need me to.. uh... "graphically interpret" those to you so you can see for your own eyes I'd still be happy to do so.

Curtis, I live in Front Royal, Va. I did the 86' about 5 years ago. I love it and it gets a lot of looks. I have my own shop here as well. I do a lot of restoration and custom work. If your interested in having some work done and you live near by, I would be the one to come see.

Shovel, I have a basic blow-up of the transmission and it's pieces. We put the new band in and did not change the setting that it was at. Do you think that it should be the same?

I live halfway across the Country. I do a lot of fabricarion and custom work myself. Only I do it on my own equipment. Still have a day job that pays the bills and has a retirement plan. 5 more months and I am eligible to retire with some decent benifits and pay.

My Cousins Husband owns a paint and body shop who does all my custom painting. His painter is 1st class. And, I have a Mexican Upoulsterer from Tiajuana who sews my interiors.

I just found it interesting that you painted the 86 the same shade off yellow I bought for mine.

I have a Company I own that I'll be running after I retire.

So far I'm still prototyping and getting the Patents lined up before I say Bye Bye to the Power Company.

Yeah the yellow is actually Nissan Xterra Solar Yellow. That's cool that you have some good hook-ups. Always gotta try to drum up some business. My 91' is going to be my "Project: Daily Driver" will I work on it. Planning to do an awesome custom paint design as well as trick it out with some add-ons. You'll have to show me pics of your's when it's done.

Hey shovel. We are having a problem with the tranny slipping. Do you have a complete breakdown of the tranny for me? I have a breakdown of a GM 4L30-E but it is a little different internally.
