Ive heard that too and for the record I dont use them(I change my filter too much), but some guys swear by them. I have read that they make your computer think its running wrong and it tries to compensate but there has to be ways people deal with that too.
The "Expensive problems" will arise if thats all you do. I think you have to address the whole spectrum of vehicle aspiration. From the filter to the exhaust to the computer. This will probably get expensive.
