Either way... the valves SOULD not tuch the pistons UNLESS the return springs are toooooooooo soft
OR
Kia in the proses changed the profile of the cams and make them go deeper
OR
KIA made the head gasket thiner...

Intresting you mention the head gasket! The head gasket was changed 6 months before this all happened under warrenty due to a leak!
