Getting the Wheeling Fever

I've been fighting these things for years. I can't get the chattering to go away. The truck has been sitting for over year now, and I'm finally getting around to fix her. The chain is running heavily on the guides and is making a horrible sound. Has anyone had this problem? I did find the distributor gear making contact with the timing chain cover top bolt, but that can't be it. Notice the slots in guides? The one on the right is pointless because the lower hole isn't slotted. It looks like the things were miss drilled. Any input would help. ![[Linked Image]](http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g282/boduke1/truck002.jpg)

could you have over-torqued your tensioner? only takes 9 ft-lbs (as per eb) and does not take much over that to ruin it sometimes. it can bind and leave the chain slack. been there...

Don't think so. I torqued everything per Haynes. This tensioner seems to be working properly, I put a new one in last go around. Same problem. This is the 4th time taking the timing cover off. I keep trying different guide positions. She runs great, except for the sound. This thing is wooping my ***. I'll triple check the torque on the tensioner.

so probably the most important bolt it the top oil pump bolt .. If it is the wrong one .. to long .. it will actually contact the tensioner , and interfer . (as seen in the pic) the correct bolt is very important in this case .

Did you drill out the oil splash guard directly underneath the oil cap? If the not the dual row timing chain WILL rub the splash guard.
