I have a 1987 Raider with the stock 2.6 w/Mikuni. When the engine is turned off all fuel drains out of the fuel line and must be manually re-primed to start again. There is an inline filter and it is bone dry. I replaced the hoses and cannot identify any leaks. At one time there was a purolator electic fuel pump installed which is not hooked up now (mounted on frame rail by tank) The wiring is still present and goes to a toggle switch on the dash but is cut after it goes through the firewall with no inline fuses. As there is a toggle switch can I connect the wire directly to the battery (after I add an inline fuse)or do I need to terminate it at the coil? The coil would probably be best but I'm not sure. Does anyone have pictures of how they completed the wiring under the hood? I purchased a 4-7 psi pump and need to install. I have been through the archives but still could use some help. As to the fuel draining out of the line, I assume your truck doesn't have a mechanical pump installed. I have seen check valves (i.e. backflow preventers) for 1/4" and 3/8" fuel hose. Other than that, I have no good ideas for you.

Thanks for the advice on the back-flow. That may be the simple answer I overlooked. It does have a mechanical fuel pump but I have read of others on here using an electric pump without removing he mechanical one.

to install an electric pump inline pump...just run a relay to an ignition sourced power...and run power from your battery to the relay so it gets switched directly to the fuel pump when you turn the key on. its quite easy to do. a local parts store will have a basic automotive relay that will work, and make sure you have an inline fuse on the power wire.

and 4-7psi is too much, you will need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for that...I think 3psi is around where you want to be.

if you do go the electric pump way, you can get a fuel pump block off plate either from a Starion/Conquest or make your own out of a plate of metal and some silicone.

Thanks for the assistance. I will try to track down a 2-4 psi pump. I saw on here where some used a 4-7 psi but am not sure if they used a regulator. A check valve is also in order but think I need the pump as well as I don't seem to be getting enough fuel on steep inclines.

I have ran 4-7 psi for years without any regulator. Ive never had any problems. I get plenty of fuel for the steep inclines, never stalls.

I would locate the check valve as close to the fuel tank outlet line as possible, up stream of the pump. I would also try to go one bigger size of check valve than the fuel line if you cannot get flow rating for the valve. Go for about double the rated fuel pump flow.
