I'm pretty new to the Kia circle, I just got a 98 Sporty 4dr, 4x4, A/T. I see alot of you listing lift kits on your tag lines. Where are you getting some of your gear (lifts, bumpers, etc. Could use some websites to plan my shopping.
Btw, those of you who are lifted and running large tires, what are you doing for gearing to compensate?

Fred

well, i believe there is only 2 options remaining.

there is a guy on here by the name of dennis thompson who sells a spacer lift.

or for our ausie friends there is a company down under called ironman i believe.

Rocksport gear is no longer doing business.

and unfortunately as it sits there is no gearing options for us to compensate for larger tires. that being said, is the only problem i have had since lifting is the horrible gas mileage and lack of acceration.

Roll Me Over
*
Problems hmm.....lets see......

I had a pinch bolt break on the passenger side with my wishbone type suspension from KIA!!!

Idler arm went out!!

Busted a strut!!

Alignment expenses over and over again!

Ball Joint needed to be replaced!

Rotors Destroyed due to having 31's!!!

ALL AFTER THE LIFT!

And my lift was well worth the trouble on all of my Sportages! May I say that I would gladly do it again!!!

Is Rocksport the one that was out of San Antonio, Tx.? I'm actually going to be down there in 2 days. Was hoping to meet up with them. As far as the spacer kit, are you referring to a body lift? If so, how much of a lift is it?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have Daves lift, and havent broken anything yet. Somehow my Kia has taken the abuse and never complained. Yeah there are no gears yet, but a lot of us that are interested.

Yup it's a Kia. 4" RockSportGear lift. 31 X 10.5 tires.

ive been runnin dennis's up your kia lift couple years now.with new kybs all around off ebay.some offset rims with 30.5x9.50s.you definatly lose some power the bigger tire you go.so be willing to make a compromise somewhere.i would recommend the "up your kia" to any one. ive put it on twice, alone both times, second time to put on kybs when i saw everything was working well.stock struts(oem)kyb's up front keep a arm front dropping to low and damaging cv boot.it rubs very little now at full drop ,but its right between the grooves.on the back ,make a small bracket to raise bottom of shocks 3 inches. i would raise the bottom before trying to extend the bolt end of the shock with some all thread and a coupler.bracket is welded and bolted in place.just make sure the rear spring doesnt fall out at full axle drop on both sides i think this is a nice setup.its been working great for me. ive got great articulation nothing binding up when turning in tight spots on and off canmber.i do know (this is cruciual) had i got bigger tires i could have had some trouble .you need the tire to be able to go up into the wheelwell to really work well and get all available travel.ive had my tires crammed up in there way far,and was glad tire wasnt any bigger. makes everything work together just right..as the "who" said "creepy crawly, creepy crawly"

if i ever total this sport i will buy another used one and put the up "your kia kit" on it.

sorry forgot to add i used dennes's kit with eibach lift springs. which i think are discontinued sorry dude.i would beg dave, throw in some beer $$ for incentive.or start experimenting with salvage yard springs i tkink they know tj springs work in rear not to sure about front. the thing we all want is GEARS AND LOCKERS!

You wouldn't happen to have any contact info on him would you? If you do you can send it in a private note. I'm leaving tomorrow night and will be down there Wed & Thur. Would like to get up with him on it.

Thanks,
Fred
