The majority of engine oils are blended with different oils and additives having characteristics to give your engine better lubrication under different operating conditions, such as, extreme high or low temperatures. Viscosity at different temperatures is the major issue, but other concerns, such as chemical buffering, sealing, etc. are also important. There are cheap oils available that do not meet certain standards and will be abusive to your engine.
