Ok i been gone long enough now it is time to come back full force

Origonal question is high milage oil a gimmick- no
here is why. there are additives in it to help soften the gaskets so they reseal, additives to clean out years of carbon and such, and additives to keep carbon from scratching up the cylander walls in the now more worn engine. I know for a fact quaker state adds slick 50 to their high milage engines which i think contains teflon.what other companies use i don't know.

oil is not oil,and fuel isnt fuel. do you really think mobile,Exxon or whatever other companies will sell their high quality oil and fuels to joe schmoes oil company. no they won't they keep it for theirselfs. meaning their oil s and fuels are as good as your getting, the rest has im purities that will still work but not as well. I remember a thread simular to this where i stated the same thing,BJ stated that the days of the exxon tankers with the red stripe and tiger are gone. to which i replied no they are still around and alot. i see them quite often and i will take a picture to prove it
At any rate oils have came a long way since even when i was just starting to drive. new additives and so on but none the less the big oil companies will always have the better stuff. personally my wife and i burn exxon gas and i use valvoline oil. we use mobil1 Synthetic in hers since we bought hers new. the way i see it is if gm reccomends mobil1 in the vette, and mercedes does the same it has to be good. i also know that vw and audi and i think saab reccomend castrol. another thing is mercedes will void a warrenty if you do not use synthetic oil when it is reccomended. how they tell i have no idea but i was told that when i ordered a filter from the dealer,he didn't try selling me the oil as well he just said make sure you use synthetic so the warrenty is not voided.
