OH i forgot to say anything any company says,or shows their product doing better damn well do it false advertising is illegal. the thing about the additive is yes it may not be a secret but any smart oilcompany will have that mixture of oil and additives copyrighted. for example, mind you i dont know if these are actual amounts or additives but here i go. brand x 10 % teflon 10% detergant 20% conventinal oil 60% sythetic oil. now brand x copyrights that so now noone can legally use the same amounts of those additives thats partially why i think oils are improving. the competition and copyrighting is forcing companies to try different things to keep an edge over their competitors.
