ok, i just went out and looked at it, i see a good spot where I can hit the knuckle right on the side where the ball joint stud goes through, but what is this double hammer trick?

Scottie - the second hammer is placed on the backside of the knuckle ring eye to absorb the blow from the striking hammer and keep you from bending something. The force from the blow will shock the eye and stud joint just enough to allow the tapered stud to pop free of the jammed fit..... as said above, hit it hard. Before you hit it, make sure the castle nut is still on the stud, but loose - it will keep everything from flying apart.

is this technique possible by yourself with only 2 hands b/c I would think you can't get as much power with a hammer if you only hold it with one hand. you hold the backside hammer with one hand and strike with the other?

Yes, you can do it alone, but it's better done with 2 people. If you can't make it work with 2 hammers, just hit it with one 40 oz mini-mall and hope for the best..... that's what I usually do and I haven't bent anything... yet.

Leave the nut on and preload the control arms a bit with a jack. Place a hammer under the castlated nut and whack the knuckle. The force of the preload should help seperate them without a fork. You do have to get pissed.

It's not that hard really. I've popped bunches of ball joints that way, by myself. If you're lucky, it'll come apart on the first whack, but it almost always takes several whacks (maybe 3 to 6 or so), particularly if it's been a while since they've been apart.
Like Frank mentioned, make sure you loosen the castle-nut a few turns but leave it on.
