I have been researching what options I have when it comes to swapping a 3.1TD into a 2nd Gen Rodeo and have been working on different tranny/t-case combos. Today I stumbled across a post from Jerry that I found quite interesting.
LinkI JUST TOOK A LOOK AT THE PIX ON EBAY OF THE TWO ENGINES THAT YOU AND ADRIAN WERE TALKING ABOUT AND THE ONE WITH THE MANUAL TRANS LOOKS TO BE FROM A CAB OVER BODY, ,TRYING TO GET THAT THING S LINKAGE SETUP IN A TROOPER OR A PICKUP WILL BE A NITE MARE WITHOUT THE SHIFTER AND CABLES , THE ONE WITH THE AUTOMATIC ,YOU WOULD NOT BE WORRIED ABOUT THAT IS NOT THE 4L30 TRANS , IT IS A VERSION OF THE ASIAN WARNER AW3080LE TRANS AND IS ABOUT AS BULLET PROOF A TRANS AS YOU CAN FIND , THE TRANSFERCASE IS DEFINATELY FROM THE BACK END OF AN MUA TRANS ADAPTED TO THE A/W ,VERY SIMILIAR TO THE WAY IT IS ON THE BACK OF THE 4L30, THE TRANS IS COMPLETELY ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED ,AND IT IS SAME TRANS AS THE 2004 RODEO CAME WITH , TOYOTA ,AND LEXUS AND A LOT OF OTHER VEHICLES HAVE USED THIS TRANS ..JERRY
So if I am lucky, and not entirely crazy, the transmission bolt pattern to the bellhousing is the same for all of the Asian Warner trannies. If that is true then I should be able to take the A340F out of a Toyota and stick it on the back of the 3.1TD and then I can do virtually any t-case combo with the Toyota stuff.
Does anyone have any pictures or experience with both of the trannies that could help verify my thinking?
