Having just been told that my AC system repair will cost $1700 I am considering rebuilding the Reed Valves on the compressor myself - the tech told me those are likley the problem because the clutch looked good to him and the system had freon in it. He said the compressor is not building up enough pressure to circulate the freon.

They tell me a reman compressor cost $900 and a receiver dryer cost $180 - make sense? Comments or thoughts?
